Port Seton & Cockenzie 2012

What a great weekend of head to head rowing we had a Port Seton & Cockenzie at the weekend. Everybody turned up with waterproofs and hats and gloves remembering the weather we got last year, but at the end of a day of perfect conditions with blue skies and bright sun there were a few red heads. Sunday, not so warm...but still fun!

NBRC was well represented, competing in all categories sometimes with two crews. We had new rowers competing in their first regatta and some hoping to regain the titles they won last year.

The format was knockout type competition with two boats going head to head in a pursuit style race of ~2 mins. It was a real test of coxing to get round two bouy turns efficiently and a test of the rowers' ability to quickly accelerate the boats to top speed both at the start and after each turn. As with all rowing, it's the teamwork that brings the best results.

The home teams' practice paid off and they got to every final (there were five clubs attending) but we nicked a couple from them. The finals were contested by

Category Teams Winner
Mens Open Boatie Rows vs North Berwick North Berwick
Womens Open North Berwick Boatie Rows
Mixed Open North Berwick North Berwick
Mixed 55+ Boatie Rows vs Boatie Blest Boatie Rows
Womens 40+ Boatie Rows vs Anstruther Boatie Rows
Mens 40+ North Berwick Boatie Rows

Over two days of racing NBRC set the fastest times, our Men's Open crew had the best time of 2min 6 secs, closely followed by our Mixed Open crew at 2min 9secs, which bodes well for the forthcoming season.

Thanks to the BoatieBlest club of Port Seton & Cockenzie for hosting a wonderfully unique event and providing some smashing cakes :-)

Tiger Cup 2012

Tiger Cup final Tuesday 24th April 2012

Build Progress

NB01 (St Baldred):  All installation complete for this stage with Brass Keelband installed along with rubbing trims. Modification to the floorboards is still on-going but this work will be conducted at the harbour and will not put the boat out of service this week.

NB02  The clean-up of the inside of hull is now almost complete and the larch top rails have been dressed and are ready for fitting.
Oars:  Oar numbers 3 4 and 5 are progressing at various stages, with painting commencing on at least one of them!

Build Progress Wk20

NB01 Is now the right way up with all it's top coats on. All internal items are in build or have been completed. NB01 requires it's top rail to be varnished. The seats and floorboards are being oiled and varnished before being fitted inside the hull.  The nameplates are at Douglas Seton, who is very kindly doing the sign writing.  Kebes and top rubbing rails still to be installed.

NB02 inside hull clean-up progressing well.
